Schoolwork #2 Bump Maps and 3D

Created a short scene for testing out stuff - the controller gave me a bit of issues, but he's jumping and sort of looking around now. I used the standard MouseLook script, and it works decently, but what I'd rather talk about right now is the bump maps.

It absolutely blows my mind that this is a flat surface. Such an easy and such an ingenious idea and implementation. I hope this cave-scene I'm making will turn out nice, but even if it doesn't, this makes me want to create some sort of cave exploration game or something.

Schoolwork # 1 - 3D and programming

In the process of making a scene for showing off what is hopefully going to be a nicely lit scene - I haven't programmed in Unity for a while (and Unreal Engine was suggested, but I am short on time as it is and havent the time to learn it for this project at least), and so I've had to look up everything. Couple that with searching for and annotating academic sources, trying to remember the Autodesk Maya layout and drawing practice, and me is a busy bee.

Have almost finished the 3D controller now, the character can move (lot of issues with GetKey vs GetKeyDown - doo), can't jump, and I still need a lot of objects imported. I just hope Bump maps wont give me any issues...

Schoolwork # 0

As a part of my Uni degree we have to keep a blog - so far I have yet to ask more direct questionsa bout what it is supposed to be about, so I'll just go for it.
Our task for next week involves finding 15 useable sources about our chosen fields as well as creating some lit scene pertaining to games - I'm thinking I'll build a small explorable scene within Unity. A bunch of examples were shown such as a crypt and a cave, and I think I'll start off with the cave for now. I'm going to create some rocks and stones in Maya and then import then into Unity and see what happens when I try to make bump-mapping and stuff like that work in the free version.
