Clothes

I'm rubbish at drawing clothes and folds and lighting on that sort of thing - if you check out my speedpaints you'll see that I'm trying but (mostly) failing.

I thought a good idea of learning how to draw that sort of thing would be to find pictures online and just try to redraw the shadowy and light areas. I had decent success on my first one, until my computer somehow decided to try to multiply some process-variable or other with 0, and crashed photoshop. Thats the second time it has happened today - luckily I only lost the t-shirt thing, but it is ominous. I think the time for the formatting of my computer draws ever nearer.

Slowly - Speedpaints and anxiety

Long time since I've posted anything - I'll get to another post about not posting and why and such at another time.

I've had some decent fun doing speedpaintings the last couple of days - I should be drawing concept art for my big project, but I don't think I have the necessary skills yet. Sadly, I won't have time to develop them to a degree I like, so I'd better just get to it. I have done a few pieces that could fit my project, but most have been training-doodles.

I joined the Daily Spitpaint group on facebook, and while I havent posted anything yet due to the extreme level and extremely few 'likes'/comments on pieces that arent amazing, they have some interesting topics now and again.

Yesterday the topic was Lost in the Jungle (among others), and I did the following two pieces:

The former took about an hour and a half, and the latter took 30 mins (the timelimit in the Daily Spitpaint contest). I created a facebook group for my fellow 2D students (first years), for us to post our speedpaints without anxiety. It is still hard for me to accept that people 8 year my junior have vastly superior art skills to me - if I could just go back to high school and tell myself to not worry and just keep drawing.

Today the topic of the spitpaint was Hiding from the Sun, and I drew the first piece in 30 mins:

I posted this to our new facebook group (and people were too kind with their likes), and also recorded it for my new ShittySpeedPaints youtube channel. I hope that when I some day get better and people will want to look at my art that my older videos on the channel will also get views. In any case, it will be a fun way to chronicle my increase in skills.

I spent an additional hour on the piece, and did my best to correct the horrible perspective on the guy in the cave (and also gave him a nose):

I quite like it this time around, and would probably have posted it to the Daily Spitpaint if I hadnt spent an hour too much on it.

Till next,
